Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is a procedure that continues to find new medical applications and is gaining increasing popularity as a skin rejuvenation treatment. The procedure is simple in the sense a small amount of blood (20ml) is taken just as in a blood test. This blood is then put into a special test tube which is then placed in a centrifuge and spun at high speeds. The spinning of the blood separates the components with the heavier blood cells sinking to the bottom of the test tube which leaves the liquid plasma portion at the top of the test tube. This plasma can then be easily removed and used to treat the skin. The plasma portion contains the platelets and these contain natural growth factors that can be used for skin repair and rejuvenation. PRP can be used in combination with skin needling or as a specific injection procedure (In the USA these blood injections are commonly called the Vampire facelift)
