Our clinic was originally established as the LASER MEDICAL CENTRE in
1986, at the Grand Hyatt in Collins Street, Melbourne, by Dr Garth
Dicker and Dr Mark Lawry, who were two of the first laser practitioners
in Victoria and indeed in Australia. The practice was established with the
goal of being a centre of excellence for doctors to provide the latest
medical laser technology to patients throughout Victoria.
The practice started with a single laser machine, called the Copper
Vapour Laser. This was a revolutionary laser at the time that was
developed out of Sydney University, and was used primarily to treat
patients with disfiguring skin problems notably facial birthmarks and
severe vascular malformations.
As the emerging fields of Laser Medicine and Cosmetic Medicine
developed and new technologies became available so did our clinic
evolve and grow. New lasers were progressively added and the range of
treatments expanded. In 1998 the clinic was renamed the COSMETIC
and LASER MEDICAL CENTRE and in 2003 Dr David MacDonald joined
as medical director. In 2004 we had outgrown our existing address and
relocated to larger rooms at the current practice address, in the
Professional Suites of Collins Place, at 45 Collins Street, Melbourne.
As the clinic has grown so have the staff numbers expanded with a
number of doctors, cosmetic nurses and dermal therapists working at
our clinic as well as our highly regarded reception and practice
management personnel. We greatly value staff loyalty and many of our
staff have now been with us for over 10 years and some for nearly 20
We currently have around 18 different Laser and energy based machines
and devices that allow us to offer our patients a range of state of the art
non-surgical treatment options. Since the approval of Anti-wrinkle injections for
cosmetic use in Australia in 2002, the nonsurgical cosmetic side of our
practice has continued to grow. We provide a large variety of
nonsurgical injection, needling and dermal therapy based treatments for
anti-ageing and skin rejuvenation.
We continue to keep our staff trained in the latest developments and
advancements in Laser Medicine and Cosmetic Medicine and they
regularly attend both national and international meetings and
symposiums to keep updated. We have long established relationships
and memberships with many authoritative bodies including the CPCA
(Cosmetic Physicians College of Australasia), ASLMS (American Society
of Lasers in Medicine and Surgery), ANZSP (Australian and New Zealand
Society of Phlebology), ACP (Australasian Society of Phlebology), ACP
(American College of Phlebology) and the AMA (Australian Medical
At the Cosmetic and Laser Medical Centre we are a results driven
practice: we want patients to get great results so that not only will they
come back, but also they will recommend us to their friends and
relatives. Word of mouth and personal recommendations are still by far
the largest sources of new patients to our clinic and we are very proud
of this fact.
